Signing Up For The Club W Wine Club

Hi Fellow Wine Lovers,

I just signed up for the Club W Wine Club at http://www.clubw.com and am so impressed with this new club that I had to share my experience with all of you.

Club W is a very different type of wine club in that you get to choose which wines they send you every month. As you can see from my wine club reviews page, all the other wine clubs decide which bottles of wine to send you every month or quarter and you have no say in the matter. Having the wine pre-selected for you by professional sommeliers is the #1 advantage of a wine club, and Club W takes that to a whole new level by pre-selecting 50 different wines every month and then allowing you to choose with 3, 4 or more you want sent to you.

Here’s a screenshot of 8 of the 50 you can choose from this month:

Club W Wine Experience

Most of the 50 new wines they make available every month only cost $13 each, but as you can see above, there are a handful that cost more.

Shipping of your wines is also incredibly affordable. They only charge $6 for shipping when you sign up for receiving 3 bottles a month and provide shipping for FREE when you choose 4 or more bottles of wine! This is a huge benefit for Club W as many of the other wine clubs charge $19.95 per shipment.

Club W also helps you decide which of the 50 wines they make available every month will best suit your palate by asking you the following 6 questions:

  1. How do you like your coffee?
  2. How do you feel about salt?
  3. Do you like citrus?
  4. Do you like earthy flavors like mushrooms and black-truffles?
  5. Do you like blackberries, blueberries and raspberries?
  6. How adventurous are you when it comes to food & drink?

Here’s a screenshot of what the palate questions page looks like:

Based on your answers, Club W shows you their top suggestions for your palate. You can always dismiss their suggestions and browse all 50 wines, which is what I did to see what I was missing. Here’s what their suggestions for my palate were:

Club W Wine Recommendations

Not only does Club W allow you to choose your own wines, but they also provide you with highly-detailed information on each and every bottle they make available. All you have to do is scroll over the bottle you’re thinking of getting, click on it and up pops a video with everything you’d want to know about it.

Not only do you learn what year it was bottled, the area of the world it comes from, the vineyard that made it, but most of the videos include interviews with the actual wine makers! You get to see their vineyard and learn a bit about them. Seeing these great wine makers at their winery brought me back to my wine tour weekends up in Napa and the Russian River Valley and made me feel connected to them in a way that no bottle of wine on the grocery store shelf can.

Club W At The Winery

After exploring 20 to 30 of the wines that looked the most intriguing to me, I decided to go with the following wines in my first shipment:

  1. 2014 Alma Libre Red Blend
  2. 2012 Upswell Cabernet Sauvignon
  3. 2014 Alchimiste Noir Red Blend
  4. 2015 Brethren of the Road Riesling

I went with 4 bottles in order to get the free shipping they offer new wine club members. I also got all of us a special $20 off your first order coupon so that my first shipment was only $36.55, instead of the usual $52.00.

Now all that’s left to do is wait for my wine to arrive and then determine just how good the wines they provide really are.

Keep an eye out for my next post to find out what I truly think of their wines 🙂
